For its first retail location, luxury watchmaker Niall has landed a prime spot on the Country Club Plaza. And the North Kansas City-based company is giving patrons a glimpse into the watchmaking process.
The 800-square-foot retail space opens Friday and features a workshop display window, where patrons can view watchmakers assemble and add the finishing touches on watches. Niall CEO and co-founder Mike Wilson said it's akin to an open kitchen concept.
"It's a mystery to a lot of people. They want to see how things are made," he said. "You can literally stand two feet away from our watchmakers and watch them finish watches. That's a pretty cool concept."
With the exception of the Swiss-made movements, Niall manufactures everything in the United States and more than 70 percent of the watch is made in Kansas City, he said.
Niall's watches have graced the wrists of a number of sports celebrities, including Kansas City Royals Manager Ned Yost; NFL coaching veteran and four-time Super Bowl champion Gary Kubiak; and Olympic gold medal winner Jack Sock.
"The reception has been outstanding," Wilson said.
